Landscapes

The children in year 6, have been studying landscape this term. They have explored the different techniques employed by artists to create depth within compositions.

The children have observed the foreground, middle ground and background independently. The have chosen to work in either poster paint or water colour.

Pond Dipping

We are lucky to have four very enthusiastic Year 6 children, Molly, Anna, Daniel and Eddie who with my help wanted to share their enthusiasm of the outdoors with our Year 2 children.

In November, we suggested the idea of a Year 2 Pond Club to be held on a Wednesday lunchtime and the response was brilliant.

Our first meeting with eight children started on 11th November and ran over 4 weeks. We will be continuing 4 weekly sessions with those children interested in the New Year, so don’t worry everybody will get a turn!

Here are some pictures taken on the day we went pond dipping with some comments from the children.

Hi I’m Daniel from the pond club.

This picture is from the pond, this is a baby dragonfly larvae. We found it in the net and we did not know we caught it found it in the wet leaves. My friend almost said it’s a dinosaur but Mrs Berry said it’s a dragonfly larvae.

Hi there I’m Joseph from the pond club and this is a picture of a baby dragonfly. Daniel and I found it in are net. At first it looked freaky, just as I was about to say it was a dinosaur Mrs Berry said “it’s a dragonfly larvae.

10.00am

After another busy day full of activities the children got ready for the long awaited disco.  Some children took longer to get ready than others!

Needless to say, the children and staff all slept very well last night.

This morning, although the temperature has dropped and they have had a little bit of rain, they are looking forward to rifle shooting, rock climbing and abseiling to name but a few.

They will be leaving the centre at 1.30pm to arrive back hopefully by 5.30pm.  There will be another update by 4pm to let you know their estimated time of arrival.

1.30pm

The children are now on the coach for their return journey to Applecroft.

3.45pm

The coaches are in Oxford, they will be stopping for a short break before heading home.  They are still anticipating a 5.30pm arrival, please keep an eye on this blog for further updates.

5.10pm

Latest information is that the coaches are on the M25.  They anticipate being back about 6pm.

9.00am

Glorious day again today, the children are all refreshed after a full nights sleep.  They had a wonderful day yesterday, trapeze, abseiling and a rather muddy challenge course.

For dinner they had a choice of macaroni cheese, steak pie or ratatouille.  For pudding a choice of homemade doughnuts or fruit.

Evening was spent around the world flag challenge, working in teams getting good use of their torches.

After their buffet breakfast they will be enjoying a lovely forest walk.
